Providing your staff with work clothing helps to foster a team ethic, and ensures their comfort and safety. Nothing lasts forever though, and eventually you will need to replace your workwear. Here are some signs that it is time to issue new work clothing to your employees.

Wear

Firstly, workers will need new clothing when it has started to wear out. Thinning fabric, holes in the material and faded colours are all signs that items such as shirts, overalls or trousers need replacing. It can be demoralising for staff to wear work clothing that is past its best, and it gives a poor impression of your business. You should therefore ensure that none of your employees have to wear worn or damaged clothing at work.

Rebranding

You will also have to replace your workwear if your business has recently rebranded. Work clothes typically include business logos and information, which can help to advertise your business. If your logo changes, however, the clothing will just look old. Customers may get the impression that you do not care about your employees or have poor attention to detail. They may even think that you cannot afford up-to-date clothing. When your business branding changes, make sure your work clothing changes with it.

Fashion

A third thing you need to look out for is changes in fashion. You do not need to keep up with the latest catwalk trends — indeed, work clothing usually conforms to a standard and is less susceptible to such changes. Nonetheless, there are trends in business wear and if you do not keep up with them you may find that your clothing starts to look old-fashioned. If you want people to think of your business as modern and up-to-date, make sure this is reflected in your clothing.

Season

Finally, don't forget that you will need different clothing in different seasons. Employees will need cooler clothing in summer and warmer clothes in winter, and outdoor workers will need greater protection from the elements when the weather takes a turn for the worse. Remember to stock up on clothing in advance — if you wait until winter to buy weatherproof clothing, you may find delays in supply and increases in price.

Make sure you carry out a regular audit on work clothing and stock up on your supplies whenever it is necessary. This will quickly translate into a happier and more productive workforce.
